News - 6th December 2008

Quote of the week:

Dance, dance, dance!

It's looking like the weather will be ok for tonight's free Dance Party in the Broadbeach Mall. See how the weather is later today and if you are in any doubt please ring Le Step On the Coast to confirm details. Last time it rained they just changed venue for the night. For more information on Gold Coast events please call (07) 5591 9170 or 0404 034 209.

December Monthly Passes are great value at $70.
Included in your pass is free pizza at our Wed night Christmas Party as well as free access to our Saturday night Red & White themed Party on Dec 20th at Mt.Gravatt.

We are now full-on into choreographing our new routines for 2009.
There will be two routines on offer... a Mentor Routine where our newer dancers partner up with more experienced dancers as well as an Intermediate/Advanced (I/A) routine jam packed with new moves, styling and new technique!
Both routines will start mid February 2009.

Also, we just thought that we'd let you know the good news that Brian and Katy's baby (Lilly) has now reached her goal weight and should be spending her first week at home this weekend. Yay!

Monday Night... Bring-a-Friend and save $ again!
The last two week's 'Bring-a-Friend' nights have worked so well we are doing it again on Monday.
Last Monday had 70 people there so great atmosphere and lots of new people to meet and dance with.

We know that word of mouth is the best form of advertising.
You telling your friends, colleagues etc is way better than any paid advertising we could do.

All you have to do is bring at least one "first timer" friend and you and your first timer friends will all get in free.
And, if you have already purchased a Monthly Pass for December, we will give you a free "thank you pass" that will entitle you to one free night or $14 off your January Monthly Pass just as a thank you for bringing some friends along to try a class.

See you at St.Joachim's School Hall in Crown St at Holland Park each Monday night.

Guest Teachers - Mondays
Spread the word...

This coming Monday Julia Nutter and Jack Fifoot have an awesome combo for you to learn as they focus on a concept with a quite different approach to that shared with you by John & Sharon last week. Come and be challenged!
Julia and Jack recently formed a dance partnership and competed in their first ever competition together. We always knew they were talented dancers but the competition proved it when they placed second in the Advanced Freestyle category. Furthermore, the team that Julia trained and help me (Mick) choreo the routine for (Like This Like That), won 1st place in the Team Challenge section. This section was judged by no less than 12 of Australia's leading dancers - so it's a real testament to Julia's dance skills and her ability to train teams for competition.

The following Monday, Lee Rays and Helen Leury will be teaching for you at Holland Park. Lee and Helen recently taught a class at Chermside which was very well received by all who attended. Lee's relaxed and fun teaching style is a treat.
Lee and Helen are two very stylish dancers who are regularly seen on a Wednesday night at West End. Lee originally learnt to dance on the Gold Coast and then moved to the UK where he taught for the largest Modern Jive company in the world. Lee and his very stylish partner Helen (from London) are now back living in Australia and are keen to share some moves and style with you.

So, there's lots of new people and lots of variety happening on Mondays!

2009 Routines
Following the success of our choreography at the Australian Open Modern Jive Championships in Queensland, we're thrilled to announce our next Brisbane routine will start in February.

There will be two Brisbane routines;
1. The Mentor Routine for 2009 (Free to mentors enrolled in the I/A Routine.)
2. I/A Routine

As per the way we've always run our routines, both routines will be on Sunday afternoons. The first session starts on Sunday 15th February and the routines will be completed in time to be performed at the annual Le Step Ball.

Whilst the individuals in the Teams put in the hard work rehearsing for the championships, there is certainly a certain amount of personal satisfaction that Julia and I choreographed the routine that placed first, and Sharon and I choreographed the routine that placed 3rd.
And, whilst the 'Low' routine was a performance piece only (and therefore not part of the 'competition'), I am also thrilled to say that the 'Low' routine was prepared by Allan and Holly from 'Le Step On the Coast'.

What all this means is that Le Step's choreography is endorsed as a really high standard by a large panel of judges that includes some of Australia's most respected dancers.

These new, fresh routines will;
- focus on the latest developments and trends in Modern Jive
- feature some of the absolute newest moves generated by some of the World's top dancers

So, learning a routine is more than just learning new steps... it's about the content.....

Are you new to Le Step?
We know that the best dancers are those who get a really good understanding of the basics and the base moves.
Our advice is; Don't be in a rush to move into the Intermediate Class.
You're much better off spending a few more weeks making sure you've covered lots of the base moves and know them well.

Typically the boys require a few more sessions than their counterparts because there is a lot to think about when leading correctly and linking moves.

Our comprehensive curriculum means there is plenty of repetition of moves without getting boring. In fact, if you did every Beginner class available you would have regularly covered 23 moves in detail plus another 23 in less detail. That will give you a whopping total of 46 moves.

So, stick to the Beginner and Re-Cap classes for a few extra weeks and become a sensational dancer with lot's of moves!

Classes to start promptly at 7:30pm
Traditionally, as the year rolls on, we allow some classes to start a little later than 7:30pm when lots of people show up a bit late.
However, you need to be aware that at the beginning of each year we make a point of starting classes promptly at 7:30pm.

There are always lots of new people at our venues in January...February... March... so it is only fair to them (many of whom show up at 7:15pm) that we start the classes on time.

A reminder that doors open at all venues at 7:15pm. Before this time the doors at some venues are locked whilst we are running private classes, filming routines or generally getting staff and crew prepared for the night ahead.
However, we encourage you to be there by at least twenty or twenty-five past seven so that we can start the class for everyone at 7:30pm sharp. (The only exception to this is the Coolangatta venue where classes will start at 7:00pm during NSW daylight saving time.)

Boys, the girls are generally much better at this so please help out in this regard if you can. It really helps when we can start the class on time and with relatively close to equal ratio of girls and boys. Thanks!

Please do your best to be there on time as it really helps all our new people to have experienced people there from the start.

$45 'First Timer Pass' available 1st Night ONLY
Available on your first night only = $45 for six classes.
Please tell your 'First Timer Friends' the awesome offer we have for them.
All "first-timers" have the opportunity to purchase our 6 lesson 'First Timer Pass' for just $45 normally $84 value.

Please tell your friends about this introductory offer so they come prepared with $45 cash or a credit card on their first night. There's no obligation what-so-ever to purchase but be aware this offer is exclusive to people on their first night at any Le Step class!
They can purchase the card up front or purchase it after trying the Beginner/Recap Class/es on their first night.
Passes last for twelve months.

Merry Christmas,
From Mick, Rach and the Le Step Team
