News 27th October 2009

The waltz is a dance of quite too loose a character, and unmarried ladies should refrain from it...very young married ladies may be allowed to waltz if it is very seldom....
-- From "The Gentleman and Lady's Book of Politeness," 1833.

What would they have said of Modern Jive? (Ed.)

What's happening...

We have now confirmed with the management at Colossos Hall in West End that the air-conditioning system is ready to go.
So, we will definitely be in Colossos Hall - WEST END tomorrow (Wednesday) night. 71 Jane St. Cnr Bank St.

Tuesdays at Chermside - now offering a Bridging Class most weeks.
We're thrilled to announce that we now have enough people at Chermside each week to start offering a Bridging Class each Tuesday night.
We've been getting over 40 each week and sometimes over 50 people at Chermside!
The Bridging Classes will be available most Tuesdays (subject to crew availability) and will really help to bring up the standard of lots of our newer dancers.
Thanks to all of our crew at Chermside for their enthusiam and commitment to the northside classes!

"DanceBlitz" - Over 100 already registered online.
Register now if you have not already done so.

Over 100 people are now attending danceBlitz - our NEW weekend party event on 21st-22nd November 2009.

How will this new event benefit you?
It's FUN and will help improve your dancing.
It's also a great way to get to know lots of other dancers.

Pay $25 per workshop or $99 (Early-Bird Price) for the lot... including the Saturday Night Dance Party.
Depending on your budget you can choose a standard of accomodation that suits you (or even lift share and travel back to Brisbane if you have to). And, depending on what you want to spend you can bring your own food or eat out. With less guest teachers from interstate, you won't be funding as many airfares, meals and accommodation but there will be plenty of variety of classes from some of Australia's best teachers. And we'll still cater for people with a little or lots of dance experience.

So, what's the plan?
Friday night class in Brisbane with extended dance time till 11pm.
Guest teachers...
Lee Rays and Helen Leury are teaching the Beginner class.
Louise Capps from Sydney is teaching the I/A class with Mick demonstrating!<
Saturday and Sunday workshops at the Sunshine Coast.
12 Workshops over the weekend. 6 for Beginner/Intermediate and 6 for Intermediate+/Advanced/Masters.
We have suggested on the web site, three levels of accommodation (all close to each other) for you to book or you find your own accommodation for Saturday night.
Dance Party on the Saturday night.
Plenty of time to relax, socialise and party! And time to hit the beautiful beaches too.

For more infor check out our Blitz pages here.
All registration will be done online and is now open.
Early-Bird special has now finished so get in fast before the next price increase.

Why can't I find on the web site a listing of addresses for the danceBlitz workshops/dance party?
To plan the best possible weekend for you, we need to know how many people are coming.
Therefore you need to register for the event before we tell you where the halls are. (That way we won't have people just showing up on the day without booking.)

There are three halls for workshops and they are all close'ish to Bullcock Beach.
One (that we're using on Saturday - with two rooms) is a very easy walk and the other two (which are close to each other) are a bit further away but still very walkable on Sunday.

As we get closer the event we will email all enrolled participants with all the information you need including where we are running the workshops and where to meet for activities and dinner.
Our suggestion is to stay in the main centre of Caloundra. {So, staying near Bullcock Beach is a very good option.

Bridging Classes available most nights at all venues.
What is a Bridging Class?
It's a stepping stone to the Intermediate classes. It's a bit more challenging than the recap class, a chance to learn some more moves (generally 3 per night) and technique that will help you become a better dancer and tackle the Intermediate Classes with ease once you are ready.

Why do Bridging Classes?
These classes are smaller than the regular Intermediate and I/A (Intermediate/Advanced) classes and as such you get more personalised instruction and get to know some of our crew on a personal level.
In fact, at some venues these 'Bridging Classes' are so small they are effectively 'Private Classes' with some of our most experienced dancers. This would normally cost $70 per hour.

From our experience, the better dancers are those who have spent a bit more time in the Recap and Bridging Classes before rushing head-first into the Intermediate and I/A classes.
