FRIDAYS HAPPENING AGAIN

REDCLIFFE CLASSES
Congratulations to Damian and Eliza Purcell who are starting classes in Redcliffe on Friday nights.
There will be a free opening night on Friday 18th February. Venue details will appear here soon.

Dance all you want for $18 per week.
Now that we're well into the new year this might be something you are interested in....

We've had more and more people take up this option for paying for class.
If you'd like more information about our offer of $18 per week for unlimited regular weekly classes please ask our door staff.

This offer is for those who like the idea of cheaper classes combined with the convenience of a continual direct debit payment system. There are a few set-up things for us to take care of with the third party provider, so to get things happening for you it's a minimum 12 weeks contract which, subject to some basic conditions, you can then stop at any time.

So, if this plan works for you please ask our door staff for more information.

Beginner Workshop
The aim of the beginners' workshop is to get you out there on the floor enjoying freestyle as soon as possible - after all, that's what it's all about! You will learn a number of base moves (moves which can be varied later on) in more detail than our regular classes allow. The basic techniques you'll learn from these base moves can then be applied to the many variations you'll encounter in our Intermediate / Advanced classes. Beginner workshops do not require your own partner but you do need to book.

Technique covered will include:
  • Rhythm and Timing
  • Handholds and Leads from the Man
  • Spinning Technique

  • Basic Dips and Drops; and
  • Developing Your Own Style.

Mentor Routine - Starts Sunday 27th Feb
Calling all Intermediate and Advanced dancers to act as mentors
for our newer dancers.

Julia Fifoot
For the Mentor Routine we match up some of our newer dancers with some of our more experienced dancers.
Julia and I love teaching the Mentor routine each year. It's where we see new dancers really develop their skills.

It's a great way to get to know the better dancers and well as improve your dancing by dancing with someone who already knows what they are doing.

New Dancers and Experienced Dancers, it's now time to start asking around at class to see if you can find your own partner (to mentor or to be mentored by).
If you are having any difficulty finding a partner please speak with our friendly door staff and they will try help you find someone to partner.

Even if you have already recorded your name, please email me now if you need a partner and do not have one yet: dance@lestep.com.au.

Full dates and times are on our Calendar Page
More info (including pricing and discount for mentors) is on our Coming Routines page.

Basically, it starts late February and costs $130pp for the six one hour sessions.
Mentors are 1/2 price or free if they are already enrolled in the Intermediate / Advanced Routine.

If you want a partner and have not found one yourself we can help. Please chat with our friendly door staff at your most regular venue.

Advanced Routine - Step up for a challenge.
Helen Luery

At the beginning of each year we like to provide our Intermediate / Advanced dancers with something a bit new and different.
So, with that in mind, Helen and I have chosen a slower song but one with plenty of hits in it.
The music is 'Big Girl Now' (the version that features Lady Ga Ga) and is basically about a girl who's all grown up and not the 'kid from the block' anymore. We'll play it at class for you and as we get closer the start date we'll give you a sneak preview.

Our focus will be on modern styling and body movement coupled with musical interpretation. And so far, we're excited about what we've come up with choreographically. This routine will also build your confidence with lots of intermediate moves and a bit of basic body isolation that will be achievable for everyone. Come learn something a bit different.

For those of you who wish to perform the routine, it will be ready to perform at the annual Brisbane Le Step Ball. (Date and venue TBC)

A reminder that you'll need your own partner. Find your partner now or let us know you are looking and we'll try help you out.
$130pp Starts Sunday 27th Feb. Full dates and times are on our Calendar Page

Crew Training
A reminder to all Crew that our next training session is scheduled for Sunday 30th January 2011.

That's this weekend. Full details will appear on crew roster.

Bring a Friend Night - this Friday 28th January
Our Weller's Hill venue is happening again with good numbers each week.

So, again this Friday 28th January we will have another bring-a-friend night to get some more 'new blood' happening at Weller's Hill.
Please tell your 'first-timer' friends that they (and you) will get in for 1/2 price this Friday night.

Conditions: Your friends must be first-timers at Le Step to get this deal. Offer valid this Friday only!

Lost property
We still have quite a bit of lost property that will be on display each night. If you've lost something please check it out.
Stuff that we've had for more than three months will be going to charity very soon.

Personal Hygene and this heat.
It's definitely very warm at the moment and I've had a few people mention to me recently that some of our guys and girls need to be reminded of the need to use anti-persporant/ deodorant.

For those of you who forget to bring your own deodorant you will find some free deoderant on the front desk or in the bathrooms (depending of the venue).
There is no embarrassment in using the deodorant we provide. However, it can be embarrassing if myself or one of the crew have to mention that you stink.

PLEASE;
  • make sure you use anti-perspirant or deodorant, particularly if you do not have time to shower before class
  • bring a change of shirt and perhaps a sweat towel if necessary
  • bring your own breath-freshener or use the mints at the door

Thanks to everyone for sticking to our 'Smart Casual' dress code.
A reminder guys that we do not allow 'shorts' or cut-off sleeves at our classes - even in summer.
If you want more info please chat to me at class or on the phone.
Shorts and dancing just do not work together. Get some cool trousers.

Most people dress appropriately but if you're not sure, please ask one of our friendly door staff for a full copy of the dress code for guys and girls.
