News 2nd February 2012

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Changes to danceBLITZ weekender

Due to the state election using our venues as polling booths, we have been informed that we will be unable to use the halls we had booked for danceBLITZ.
We have tried to get alternative venues on the Sunshine Coast but halls are booked out on the weekend we need them.

Therefore, we have no alternative but to look into some alternative options including running the weekend in Brisbane or postponing the event.

We anticipate having more info for you by mid next week.

At that time you will be able to;
1. Get a full refund.
2. Get a partial refund and/or used credit towards other classes/workshops/events.
3. Leave your payment as is and enjoy the event at a date to be announced.
The choice will be entirely yours.

Again, our apologies for any inconvenience caused but this situation is totally out of our control.
Thanks for your understanding,
Mick

Explanation for BEGINNER dancers.
We have two entirely separate things coming up for you.

1. BEGINNER WORKSHOP
A one-off intensive 2hr session going over basics this Sunday.
No partner required but we do require a booking.

2. BEGINNER MENTOR ROUTINE
Learn a choreographed routine with a Mentor to help you.
Starts the following Sunday for 6 x 1hr sessions over about 9 weeks.
          Partner or mentor required.

Please read on for more info on both these things.

Beginner Workshop - 2hr Intensive this Sunday afternoon.

The aim of the beginners' workshop is to get you out there on the floor enjoying freestyle as soon as possible - after all, that's what it's all about! You will learn a number of base moves (moves which can be varied later on) in more detail than our regular classes allow. The basic techniques you'll learn from these base moves can then be applied to the many variations you'll encounter in our Intermediate / Advanced classes. Beginner workshops do not require your own partner but you do need to book.

Technique covered will include:
  • Rhythm and Timing
  • Handholds and Leads from the Man
  • Spinning Technique
  • Footwork
  • Freestyling
  • Basic Dips and Drops; and
  • Developing Your Own Style.

Give yourself a head start with a two hour intensive workshop!
Date: Sunday 5th Feb 2012
Time: 3:00 - 5:00pm
Cost: Just $25pp for two hours
Venue: St.Joachim's Hall - Crown St HOLLAND PK
Partner: No partner required. However, if you organise your own partner we'll admit the two of you for $45 instead of $25ea.
Bookings: Bookings essential. Book at any class or phone 3849 2553.
See Events - Workshops - Bris for full details.

Aerials at classes...
Our policy on aerials is discussed at all Aerials Workshops but in a nut-shell this is it;

  • Absolutely no aerials to be done in the first freestyle session between 8:20 and 9pm.
  • Aerials in second freestyle session only if there is enough space to do so safely.
  • Only do aerials if you and your partner have received appropriate training.
  • To practice you must have ample space and 'spotters'.
  • Do not teach people aerials you may know! They must attend workshops to receive appropriate training from trained instructors. You teaching friends means you open yourself up to litigation when something goes wrong! (And it does!) Our experience is that dancers who are not trained teachers usually don't teach the wrong thing but (due to a lack of teaching experience) they often leave out a little piece of crucial information and that's when accidents happen.
  • Finally... do NOT be talked into learning from someone who is not a trained teacher. Get expert advice. It's not worth risking serious injury.

Wednesday Night Coffee - join us
night class.
Join us after our West End class at 71 Jane St every Wednesday night
from 10:30pm at Coffee Club in Boundary St West End.

Here's a map.

Download your virtual card NOW.
The app you want is called "eCredible".

eCredible
Everyone now has the option of getting a standard physical membership card or a virtual card on your smart phone - or both.
Simply present your virtual wallet (eCredible) at class and we will scan your membership barcode straight from your smart phone.

As more and more businesses adopt this technology it means you can have not only your Le Step membership card but lots of other membership cards stored on your phone instead of making your wallet or purse really bulky with cards.

eCredible

iPhones
If you would like to download the eCredible app to your iPhone you can do so now at iTunes.
Click on the star to get your Le Step Membership card on your phone.
If your Membership card does not download to your eCred wallet, please
let us know as it probably means we don't have your correct mobile phone number.

Android Phones
The application for Android phones is now available in the android market.
Click on the star to get your Le Step Membership card on your phone.
If your Membership card does not download to your eCred wallet, please
let us know as it probably means we don't have your correct mobile phone number.

Please be aware that your experience with the eCred virtual wallet/purse will be fairly simple until more and more and more businesses sign up for the application and all its benefits. In the meantime, enjoy the fact that you are part of a new experience.

Le Step Brisbane was the first Queensland business to use eCredible but lots more will follow,
including some big name companies that we cannot mention just yet!

I (Mick) am marketing the eCred application here in Queensland as a sideline business called 'Virtual Cards Australia'. As such I am in a very privileged position to help any dancers who have businesses that would benefit from a virtual membership or loyalty cards. Gift cards are also available and there is lots more to come. If you want to chat more (with no pressure to use the system) please give me a call on 0412 174 111. If it works for your business then great and if it doesn't that's fine too.

Think of it this way; if it's in your wallet we can probably put it on a smart phone instead.

Dress Code at Classes - Summer
Thanks to everyone for sticking to our 'Smart Casual or better' dress code.
A reminder guys that we do not allow 'shorts' at our classes - even in summer.
Shorts and dancing just do not work together. Get some cool trousers.

Also, guys for hygiene reasons we do not allow shirts with cut-off sleeves.
Most people dress appropriately but if you're not sure, please ask one of our friendly door staff for a copy of the dress code for guys or girls.

danceChamps 2012
Whether you're into competing or not, the danceChamps is a fantastic spectator event with some of Australia's top dancers coming to Queensland.

There are categories for everyone from beginner upwards.
If you are interested in competing please catch up with Mick, Lee, Helen, Julia, Kate or Anthony at class and we can point you in the right direction for more information.

The next competition is in Melbourne on the first weekend of May.
Our Brisbane danceChamps is on the first weekend of September.

Are you new to Le Step?
We know that the best dancers are those who get a really good understanding of the basics and the base moves.
Our advice is; Don't be in a rush to move into the Intermediate Class.
You're much better off spending a few more weeks making sure you've covered lots of the base moves and know them well.

Typically the boys require a few more sessions than their counterparts because there is a lot to think about when leading correctly and linking moves.

Our comprehensive curriculum means there is plenty of repetition of moves without getting boring.
So, stick to the Beginner and Re-Cap classes for a few extra weeks and become a sensational dancer with lots of moves!

Facebook "PAGE"
Maybe you have been part of our facebook 'GROUP' but we are now moving to a Facebook 'PAGE'.

Why? Because businesses are being told by facebook that they need to be a PAGE and not a group.
So, the time has now come to migrate everyone to our PAGE.

Go on, click the 'like' button.

Enjoy the dance floor!
From Mick, Rach and the Le Step Team
